The Mustang-Shelby-Ford Show. Held at Vinoy Park on the waterfront,
St. Petersburg, Florida. May 3rd , 2003. Hosted by the Suncoast
Mustang Club.
The truth is, I had planned and made reservations earlier this year to go to the Great Smoky Mountains MCA event for the weekend of May 2nd thru 4th. Then, I saw the event planned by the Suncoast Mustang Club was to be held at Vinoy Park on the waterfront in St. Pete. on May 3rd. I had always been curious about this show, having seen past events photo'd in Mustang Monthly (this is the 16th annual). It looked like an awfully appealing setting and I'd always wanted to check it out. Having close friends, Jack and Sunny, with a house (and free boarding) just a few miles up the road in Tierra Verde I made a planning switcheroo and headed South from Atlanta to St. Pete instead of North to Pigeon Forge. I wasn't disappointed. As you can see in the photos the Suncoast Mustang Club have one of the most picturesque venues a person could want. A beautiful blue water view from a stately and expansive park that's a short walk from downtown St. Pete. Downtown St. Pete is worth wandering around and I took a stroll myself after I'd parked and cleaned the G.T. 351. There are plenty of nice restaurants, shops and boutiques....enough to warrant an extended visit. As you can also see you're just a short walk from the highly impressive pier. Between the park and the shopping you're treated to a view of a beautiful harbor full of extremely nice boats. As if this isn't enough, Suncoast Mustang Club ordered up a day of perfect weather with temps in the 80's, low humidity (for St. Pete.) a clear and sunny day with a steady breeze from the water. There was an interesting array of Mustangs and Fords, food and drinks, some vendors and some beautiful shade trees from which to enjoy the gorgeous views. It don't get no better than this! Suncoast Mustang Club did a great job of organizing a wonderful show. I think they had over 130 cars there and mine will be one of them again next year! Yours should too if you get the chance, there's somethng for the whole family to enjoy. Enjoy the photos, my hosts Jack and Sunny rode their bikes to the show and were kind enough to photo the event......they have a new digital camera! I think they did a splendid job! Be sure to check out the Eleanor shot. It was a beauty. |
